(Wednesday 7/11)
Today we traveled to Oxford. I didn't really realize Oxford kind of described the whole area rather than just the school. I liked taking the bus over, as it allowed us to see a bit more of the sites as we went on our way - even if it was mostly just fields and houses. We started off with the Ashmolean Museum, which had a very interesting exhibit on historic textiles. The fabrics and tapestries held up so well considering how old they were, which was really amazing and impressive.

They also had a very large exhibit on Egypt and mummies, which was super cool but made me feel like I was going to be cursed with the wrath of a pharaoh. They just had so many mummies and some of them looked a bit disturbed, we all kind of got an eerie feeling. They also had mummies of different animals, like dogs and cats, which kind of provided a look into how they viewed animals. Another exhibit that was really cool to see was the Impressionist paintings, where they had paintings from impressionists, including Van Gogh and Monet. During the painting tour we took, there were also a few more big name paintings, I think they had a Picasso and another Van Gogh. It was truly breathtaking to see these paintings in person!
After we finished up at the Ashmolean it was lunch time! We found that little worldly cuisine buffet, which was pretty good. I'm always down for a good buffet.
We continued on to look around THE Oxford. The area we walked around was so beautiful and I loved the vines growing along the walls of the dorms. The chapel was also beautiful and it must be so amazing to go to a University that had such historically important and (even now) well known people attend. It was a very aesthetically pleasing campus as well, and I know if I went there I would most likely be taking pictures around the grounds on a daily basis.
We ended the day fairly early, as we were all trying to make it back in time to watch the next World Cup game, but it was a lovely day, and we really got to see some wonderful sites!
