Bathtime!

(Friday 7/6)

Friday we made our way to Bath. It felt like such a different place and almost made you feel like you had left England and traveled somewhere else. They had little owls everywhere that were painted with different colors and designs, a lot like the little bears they have in New Bern. They also had beautiful flowers hanging from above you that you walked under, giving the whole place a magical feel.

We went to the Bath Fashion Museum to see the Fashion in 100 Objects exhibit, which was very interesting and really provided great insight into the past and the way fashion has changed. With the motif assignment, I also really paid attention to which elements changed over time and which remained the same. It was amazing to see how some patterns and motifs we still wear today originated hundreds of years ago and remained almost unchanged over time. I also did not know much about paisley and its Indian origin before coming and seeing this exhibit, so I loved learning more about that as well.

The royal women exhibit was interesting as well, and it was cool to see how the time periods in that exhibit matched up to the Fashion in 100 Objects. The ballrooms were also exquisite! You could almost imagine people getting all dressed up and having lavish gatherings here.

After the museum we walked through Bath to see the Royal Crescent and some of the other architecture in Bath. The Royal Crescent was a lot larger than I expected, and you couldn't get the whole building in a picture without doing a panoramic. It would be so cool to live there. The open field made me feel like I wanted to run across it like I did when I was younger, so naturally Nandi and I did cartwheels across the field, because you can't just stand in an open field and leave.. it's too tempting.

We then went our separate ways to look around the town and the little shops. Stephanie, Emily, and I found a really cute little shops with lots of quirky home decorations like different coasters, signs, and knobs for cabinets. They also had an upstairs with different rugs and the whole store had a very antique quirky vibe.

I think my favorite thing about Bath had to be the phone booths with the flowers inside. It was such a cute idea and made for some really cute, unique pictures! Not just your typical phone booth picture!
